Het is zover: het hoogste punt van de HU nieuwbouw aan Heidelberglaan 15 is een feit. Op woensdag 27 september is deze mijlpaal gevierd met diverse betrokkenen binnen het programma Huisvesting, met de aannemer SPARK (bouwconsortium Besix/Strukton), de betrokken onderwijsinstituten, een aantal studenten en een aantal nauw betrokken externe relaties.
De nieuwbouw aan Heidelberglaan 15 vormt het sluitstuk van het HU Huisvestingsprogramma. In 2013 is het programma gestart, met als doel om al het Utrechtse onderwijs en onderzoek samen te brengen op Utrecht Science Park (USP) De Uithof. Op de plek waar anderhalf jaar geleden nog auto’s parkeerden, wordt nu hard gewerkt om een modern onderwijsgebouw van 21.000 m2 groot te realiseren. In de nieuwbouw komen straks de opleidingen van het domein Economie & Management, de instituten voor Communicatie en Media en het Institute for ICT.
Woensdagmiddag werden de genodigden ontvangen op de bouwplaats, op de tweede verdieping waar straks de tv-studio komt. Diane de Kruijf (programmadirecteur Huisvesting) en Michel Mulder (projectdirecteur SPARK) spraken hun dank voor de samenwerking uit. De Kruijf: “Binnen de HU vieren we over het algemeen feest als we mooie prestaties hebben bereikt op het gebied van onderwijs of onderzoek. Voor deze nieuwbouw maken we graag een uitzondering, want huisvesting is voor ons heel belangrijk. Het vormt de thuisbasis voor de activiteiten waar onze studenten en medewerkers dagelijks samen mee bezig zijn.”
De Kruijf staat ook stil bij de verantwoordelijkheid die de bouw heeft: “Er wordt gebouwd tegen studentenhuisvesting aan, waarbij iedere ochtend weer het verschil in dag- en nachtritme tussen student en vaklieden duidelijk wordt. En er wordt gebouwd in een gebied waar we lang niet de enige zijn die aan het bouwen is. En dat binnen ambitieuze kaders. Kortom en nogmaals, wij vinden dat er meer dan genoeg redenen zijn om ook bij dit moment feestelijk stil te staan.”
Ook aannemer SPARK is er trots op dit gebouw te mogen neerzetten. Projectdirecteur Michel Mulder zet de cijfers op een rij: “Een jaar geleden was er nog niets. En inmiddels vormen 259 palen de fundering, is er 10.000 kuub beton gestort en is er 3.760 m2 gevel aangebracht verdeeld over 354 houten gevelpanelen met de kozijnen er al in.” Mulder vervolgt: “Het is snel gegaan, maar niet vanzelf.”
De sleutel tot succes in een project als dit, zit hem wat Mulder betreft in de samenwerking. Niet alleen tussen de bouwpartners en onderaannemers, maar ook met de klant en de toekomstige gebruikers van het gebouw. Nu in deze bouwfase, maar ook straks om tot een succesvolle ingebruikname te komen. Om het idee, dat ‘samen’ de sleutel tot succes is, kracht bij te zetten overhandigt Michel aan Diane een attentie; een sleutelhanger in vorm van een sleutel waar beide logo’s op staan, die ook aan alle aanwezigen wordt uitgedeeld.
De Kruijf: “Samen heffen we het glas, als gebaar van dank voor jullie inzet tot dusver. En natuurlijk kan ik het niet nalaten om nogmaals te benadrukken hoe belangrijk deze huisvesting voor ons is en daarmee een beroep op jullie te doen, zodat we snel weer het glas kunnen heffen, maar dan ter viering van de oplevering en ingebruikname.”

A special moment on the construction site: highest point of the new HU building reached
They’ve done it: the highest point of the new HU building on Heidelberglaan 15 is now a reality. On Wednesday 27th September, this milestone was celebrated with the various parties involved in the Relocation programme: the contractor SPARK (construction consortium Besix/Strukton), the associated educational institutions, a number of students and several closely involved external parties.
The new building at Heidelberglaan 15 is the final component of the HU Relocation programme. The programme was launched in 2013 with the aim of consolidating all Utrecht education and research at the Utrecht Science Park (USP) De Uithof. One and half years ago, cars were still using this spot for parking. Now, work is underway to construct a modern education establishment covering a total of 21,000m2. The new construction will soon be home to the degree programmes of the Economics & Management department, the Communication and Media institutes, and the Institute for ICT.
On Wednesday afternoon, guests were welcomed on the second floor of the construction site, where the TV studio will be located. Diane de Kruijf (Accommodation Programme Director) and Michel Mulder (SPARK Project Director) expressed their gratitude for the collaboration. De Kruijf: “Within the HU, we generally celebrate if we have achieved good results in the field of education or research. But we’re happy to make an exception for this new building, as accommodation is extremely important to us. It is the home for the activities that our students and colleagues work on together every day.”
De Kruijf also considers the responsibility that the building carries: “Construction is taking place right next to student housing, and every morning, the difference between the day and night-time routines of students and workers becomes very clear. Furthermore, the construction site is in an area in which we are not the only ones who are busy building. And this is all being done within an ambitious framework. In short, we believe that there are more than enough reasons to celebrate this moment.”
Building contractor SPARK is also proud to be establishing this building. Project director Michel Mulder gives an overview of the figures: “A year ago, there was nothing there. Now, 259 ground piles form the foundation, 10,000 cubic metres of concrete have been poured and a 3,760m2 façade has been applied across 354 wooden façade panels with built-in window frames.” Mulder adds: “It has happened quickly, but it didn’t go up by itself.”
The key to success in a project like this, in Mulder’s opinion, is collaboration; not only between the construction partners and sub-contractors, but also with the client and the future users of the building. This is true at this stage of the construction, but will also apply in the future to ensure a successful commissioning of the building. To underline the idea that ’togetherness’ is the key to success, Michel hands Diana a small gift: a keyring in the shape of a key that features the logos of both parties. Each attendee is then given one of their own.
De Kruijf: “Let’s raise a glass together, as a gesture of thanks for your efforts thus far. And of course, I must emphasise once again how important this accommodation is for us and thereby appeal to you to keep up the good work so we can raise our glasses again in the near future – but then in celebration of the completion and commissioning.”
