Beste studenten en medewerkers,
Met het oog op de recente ontwikkelingen rond het coronavirus, ook nu in Nederland, kunnen we ons voorstellen dat er vragen leven onder jullie. En we willen jullie ook graag actief informeren. Om zoveel mogelijk studenten en medewerkers te bereiken gebruiken we onder meer dit communicatiemiddel, naast een aantal andere.
Preventie en instructies RIVM
Op dit moment is preventie het belangrijkste. We studeren en werken samen op onze campus en komen veel in contact met anderen. Daarom wijzen we nadrukkelijk op de meest actuele instructies van het RIVM:
Neem telefonisch contact op met je huisarts of de lokale GGD (Gemeentelijke Gezondheidsdienst) als je:
- Koorts hebt met luchtwegklachten (hoesten of kortademigheid)
- En de afgelopen twee weken in een land/regio geweest bent met wijdverspreide verspreiding van het coronavirus:
- China (inclusief Hong Kong en Macau)
- Singapore
- Zuid-Korea
- Iran
- In Noord-Italië de provincies Lombardije, Veneto, Emiglia Romangna en Piëmonte
- Of de afgelopen twee weken contact hebt gehad met een patiënt met het nieuwe coronavirus.
Ben je de afgelopen 14 dagen in de regio’s geweest waar mensen besmet zijn geraakt met het coronavirus, en je voelt je ziek met koorts, hoesten of ademhalingsproblemen, dan adviseren we:
- Blijf thuis, reis niet als je je ziek voelt.
- Zoek medische hulp: bel eerst naar de dokterspraktijk en vertel over je recente reis of verblijf en de symptomen.
- Vermijd contact met anderen.
- Bedek mond en neus met een tissue of mouw (niet je handen) bij hoesten of niezen.
- Was je handen na niezen of hoesten.
- Gebruik een desinfecterend middel op alcoholbasis als water en zeep niet beschikbaar zijn.
- Zoek meer informatie op de pagina van het RIVM.
Actuele informatie RIVM
De meest actuele informatie over het coronavirus en een uitgebreid overzicht met vragen en antwoorden wordt gepubliceerd door het RIVM.
De Rijksoverheid heeft een lijst met veel gestelde vragen over het coronavirus en onderwijs.
Reisadviezen en dienstreizen
Uitgaande reizigers (medewerkers en studenten) raadplegen de reisadviezen van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. De HU adviseert medewerkers en studenten bij verblijf in het buitenland altijd om zich te registreren bij de Nederlandse ambassade. Voor reizende medewerkers en studenten is het bovendien van belang dat zij een HU-reisverzekering (HU-login) hebben afgesloten. Ook indien ze al in het buitenland zijn, is dat nog mogelijk. Voor terugkerende reizigers zijn de bovengenoemde instructies van het RIVM van toepassing.
Vragen van studenten en medewerkers
Mochten er nog andere vragen zijn, dan is daarvoor het centrale e-mailadres info@hu.nl beschikbaar. Alle vragen die verband houden met het coronavirus kunnen hier gesteld worden. Een team van specialisten zit klaar om de vragen te beantwoorden. De HU heeft sinds vorige week een Crisis Management Team (CMT) ingericht waarin coördinatie, communicatie en mogelijke scenario’s besproken worden.
Tot slot
We zien dat het coronavirus impact heeft op de samenleving, dat er veel over wordt gesproken en dat er zorgen zijn. Het belangrijkste advies dat we iedereen willen geven is om gebruik te maken van de beschikbare informatie van het RIVM als leidraad en de tips ter preventie te volgen. Samen kunnen we daarmee de risico’s verkleinen en bijdragen aan de bestrijding van het virus.
Wij hopen dat het effect van het virus in onze omgeving beperkt blijft, dat ons onderwijs en onderzoek niet geraakt worden en dat op korte termijn de uitbraak van het coronavirus achter ons ligt.
Voor ons als HU-gemeenschap ligt er een taak om professioneel en nuchter met de risico’s van het coronavirus om te gaan. Met elkaar en voor elkaar.

Dear students and employees,
In view of the recent developments concerning the corona virus, also emerged in the Netherlands now, we can imagine you have some questions. Also we would like to inform you actively. In order to reach as many students and employees, as possible, we use this means of communication, among others.
Prevention and instructions RIVM
At this moment, prevention is most important. We study and work together on our campus and come into contact with others all the time. That is why we emphasize the most current instructions from the RIVM:
Contact your doctor or the local GGD (Municipal Health Service) if you:
- Have a fever with respiratory symptoms (cough or shortness of breath)
- And have been in a country / region for the past two weeks with widespread spread of the corona virus:
- China (including Hong Kong and Macau)
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Iran
- The Northern Italy provinces of Lombardy, Veneto, Emiglia Romangna and Piedmont
- Or when you have been in contact with a patient with the new corona virus in the past two weeks.
If you have been to the regions where people have been infected with the corona virus in the last 14 days and you feel sick with a fever, coughing or breathing problems, we recommend:
- Stay at home, don’t travel if you feel sick.
- Seek medical help: first call the doctor’s office and tell them about your recent trip or stay and the symptoms.
- Avoid contact with others.
- Cover mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands after sneezing or coughing.
- Use an alcohol-based disinfectant if water and soap are not available.

The most up-to-date information about the corona virus and an extensive overview of questions and answers is published by RIVM.
The central government has a list of frequently asked questions about coronavirus and education.
Travel advice and business trips
Outgoing travelers (employees and students) consult the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in Dutch). The HU always advises employees and students when they are abroad to register at the Dutch embassy (in Dutch). It is also important for traveling employees and students that they have taken out a HU travel insurance policy (HU-login). Even if they are already abroad, that is still possible. For returning travelers, the above-mentioned instructions from the RIVM apply.

If there are any other questions, the central e-mail address info@hu.nl is available. All questions related to the corona virus can be asked here. A team of specialists is ready to answer your questions. The HU has set up a Crisis Management Team (CMT) since last week in which coordination, communication and possible scenarios are discussed.
Finally
The coronavirus has an impact on our society, there is a lot of talk about the virus and there are concerns. The most important advice we want to give you is to use the available information from RIVM as a guideline and to follow the tips for prevention. Together we can reduce the risks and contribute to the fight against the virus.
We hope that the effect of the virus in our environment will remain limited, that our education and research will not be affected and that the corona virus outbreak will soon be behind us.
For us as a HU community there is a task to deal with the risks of the corona virus in a professional and sober way. With each other and for each other.
