Beste Collega’s,
Het kabinet heeft vanavond bekend gemaakt dat de huidige maatregelen worden verlengd tot en met 28 april 2020. Dat is voor ons allemaal een bericht dat impact heeft op ons leven, onze werkzaamheden en onze sociale omgeving. Het is duidelijk dat de bestrijding van de verspreiding van het coronavirus een ongekende uitwerking heeft op onze samenleving; we weten inmiddels ook dat de gevolgen van deze crisis nog lang merkbaar zullen zijn voor ons allemaal.
De verlenging van de kabinetsmaatregelen betekent ook dat ook de HU gesloten blijft en dat we afstandsonderwijs zullen aanbieden, tot 1 juni, zoals wij reeds hebben gecommuniceerd, de toetsen anders inrichten, ons onderzoek en onze bedrijfsvoering voor langere tijd aanpassen. Dit heeft ook consequenties voor ons allemaal. Wat we niet mogen verwachten is dat we straks de draad weer oppakken zoals deze was. We kunnen niet anders dan concluderen dat onze samenleving, onze maatschappij en onze economie nog lang de gevolgen van deze crisis zal dragen.
Onze hogeschool is hier geen uitzondering op. Ook wij zullen de nieuwe realiteit onder ogen moeten zien en beseffen dat we in een andere HU terugkeren dan we noodgedwongen hebben achtergelaten. Er wachten ons vele nieuwe uitdagingen die van ons allemaal organisatorische creativiteit en flexibiliteit vergen. Daarmee vragen we veel van jullie, ook in het besef dat een aantal van jullie nu reeds met een hoge werkdruk kampen, lastige privéomstandigheden ervaren en onzeker zijn over de toekomst. We beseffen dat we veel van jullie vragen en vergen, laat dat helder zijn.
En toch zullen we deze inspanningen leveren, voor elkaar en natuurlijk voor onze studenten. Met elkaar gaan we werken aan de toetsen, de stages, het afstuderen, de instroom en de studiebegeleiding. Met elkaar gaan we werken aan het afstandsonderwijs, alternatieve werkvormen en onze kennissprong in digitale middelen gebruiken. Er komt nog veel op ons af, dat is zeker. Daarbij mogen we elkaar niet uit het oog verliezen, dat is ook zeker. Deze tijd doet een groot beroep op onze collegialiteit, op samenwerking, op het verdelen van de werkdruk en onze energie. Laten we dan ook samen onze energie zo goed mogelijk inzetten en elkaar de support geven die we nodig hebben.
Streaming van hoorcolleges stopt per 1 april
Het gebruik van de faciliteiten om hoorcolleges te streamen vanuit de collegezalen van de HU, met support van specialisten van IM&ICT, is beperkt. Daarom hebben we het besluit genomen om deze mogelijkheid te staken per 1 april. Docenten maken massaal gebruik van andere online platformen om hoorcolleges te geven en kunnen daarmee vanuit huis blijven doorgaan.
Onderzoek HU gaat zoveel mogelijk door
Ook het onderzoek in kenniscentra van de HU vindt zoveel mogelijk doorgang vanuit huis. Waar het gaat om onderzoek waarbij gebruik van de faciliteiten en laboratoria in de HU gebouwen noodzakelijk is, blijven de huidige maatregelen van kracht. Deze onderzoekers blijven toegang houden tot deze faciliteiten. Het andere onderzoek wordt zoveel als mogelijk vanuit huis en online voortgezet. Daarnaast wordt de impact van de kabinetsmaatregelen op de lopende en startende onderzoeksopdrachten centraal in kaart gebracht. De kenniscentra streven er naar om ook in deze tijd in verbinding te blijven met het onderwijs en kennis te blijven delen en van waarde te laten zijn voor de opleidingen.
HU-gemeenschap met impact
Onze bijzondere dank gaat uit naar al onze collega’s en studenten die zich in deze tijd zich dienstbaar maken voor anderen. We zien dat studenten en collega’s met een BIG-registratie werken in de zorg; we zien dat studenten zich aanbieden om ouderen te helpen, een heel groot compliment voor jullie! De HU-gemeenschap laat zien dat zij in deze crisis bewust is van en betrokken blijft bij haar omgeving. Een ander mooi initiatief nemen studenten van de opleiding optometrie, die gaan samenwerken met de afdeling oogheelkunde van het UMCU. Zo’n 12 tot 15 studenten krijgen een training en gaan acht weken werken in een team binnen het UMCU dat 250 á 300 patiënten per dag een telefonische triage afneemt. Een ander goed voorbeeld is dat de 36 ziekenhuisbedden in de lokalen van het Instituut voor Verpleegkundige Studies zijn aangeboden aan het Diakonessenhuis en het UMCU.
Publicatie rooster D
De publicatie van rooster D is uitgesteld tot eind van deze week. Het rooster van periode D bevat onderwijsactiviteiten voor en na 1 juni waardoor de onzekerheid over nog groot is. We gaan het gevolg van het kabinetsbesluit en de verlenging van de maatregelen voor het rooster in kaart brengen. Het rooster wordt dan zo snel mogelijk gepubliceerd. Voor studenten is er voor de tussentijd een bericht op de landingspagina van MijnRooster en MyHU geplaatst met de strekking: publicatie van het rooster volgt einde van deze week en je opleiding informeert je over het wel of niet door gaan van onderwijsactiviteiten.
Tot slot
Zoals minister-president Rutte bij zijn persconferentie van vanavond stelde, ervaart Nederland nu sinds lange tijd de grootste crisis, niet in oorlogstijd. We kunnen de ogen niet sluiten voor wat er om ons heen, ook buiten de HU, gebeurt en welke enorme invloed dit heeft op ons, onze gezondheid, ons welzijn en onze samenleving. Zowel thuis als in onze naaste omgeving. In een tijd als deze zien we veel mensen die zich inzetten in de zorg, dappere mensen die ons respect en onze waardering verdienen. We zien deze mensen ook in de HU-gemeenschap; collega’s die nu doen wat er gedaan moet worden, collega’s die zich met volharding en veel energie inzetten om onze hogeschool op koers te houden voor onze studenten. Jullie verdienen hetzelfde respect en dezelfde waardering.

Dear colleagues,
Tonight the Dutch government announced that the current measures will be extended until April 28, 2020. This is a message that has an impact on all our lives, our work and our social environment. It is clear that stopping the spread of the coronavirus has an unprecedented effect on our society; we now also know that the consequences of this crisis will be felt by all of us for a long time to come.
The extension of the cabinet measures also means that the HU will also remain closed. Also we will offer remote education, until June 1 as we communicated before, organize the tests differently, adjust our research and our business operations for a longer period of time. This also has consequences for all of us. We should not expect that we will pick up where we left of. We can only conclude that our community, our society and our economy will continue to bear the consequences of this crisis for a long time to come.
Our university of applied sciences is no exception to this. We too will have to face the new reality and realize that we will return to a different HU than the one we were forced to leave behind. Many new challenges await us that require organizational creativity and flexibility from all of us. With that we ask a lot of you, also in the knowledge that a number of you already suffer from a high workload, experience difficult private circumstances and are uncertain about the future. We realize that we ask and demand a lot from you, let that be clear.
And yet we will make these efforts, for each other and of course for our students. Together we will work on tests, internships, graduation, intake and study counseling. Together we will work on remote learning, alternative working methods and use our large knowledge increase of digital resources. A lot is still ahead of us, that’s for sure. We shouldn’t lose sight of each other, that’s for sure. This time makes a great appeal to our collegiality, to cooperation, to distributing the workload and our energy. So let’s use our energy together as well as possible and give each other the support we need.
Lecture streaming will end on April 1
The use of the facilities to stream lectures from the lecture halls of the HU, with support from specialists from IM & ICT, is limited. That is why we have made the decision to end this option as of April 1. Lecturers make extensive use of other online platforms to give lectures and can continue to do so from home.
Research HU will continue as much as possible
Research in HU knowledge centers also takes place as much as possible from home. If research requires the use of facilities and laboratories in the HU buildings, the current measures remain in force. These researchers will continue to have access to these facilities. The other study is continued as much as possible from home and online. In addition, an overview of the impact of the Cabinet measures on current and starting research assignments will be made centrally. The knowledge centers also strive to remain in contact with education and to share knowledge and to make it valuable for the study programs.
HU community with impact
Our special thanks go to all our colleagues and students who are helping others today. We see that students and colleagues with a BIG registration work in healthcare; we see that students offer to help the elderly, a big compliment to you! The HU community shows that in this crisis it is aware of and remains involved with its environment. Another nice initiative is taken by students of the optometry course, who are going to collaborate with the ophthalmology department of the UMCU. About 12 to 15 students receive training and work for eight weeks in a team within the UMCU that administers 250 to 300 patients a triage via telephone per day. Another good example is that the 36 hospital beds in the premises of the Institute for Nursing Studies have been offered to the Diakonessenhuis and the UMCU.
Publication schedule D
The publication of schedule D has been postponed until the end of this week. The timetable of period D contains educational activities before and after June 1, so there is still a great the uncertainty about it. We will map out the consequences of the cabinet decision and the extension of the measures for the timetable. The timetable will then be published as soon as possible. In the meantime, a message for students has been posted on the landing page of MijnRooster and MyHU stating the following: the timetable will be published at the end of this week and your study program will inform you about whether or not educational activities will continue.
Finally
As Prime Minister Rutte stated at his press conference tonight, the Netherlands has been experiencing the greatest crisis for a long time, not in wartime. We cannot close our eyes to what is happening around us, including outside the HU, and what enormous influence this has on us, our health, our well-being and our society. Both at home and in our immediate environment. In a time like this, we see many people who are committed to healthcare, brave people who deserve our respect and our appreciation. We also see these people in the HU community; colleagues who are now doing what needs to be done, colleagues who are committed to perseverance and a lot of energy to keep our university of applied sciences on course for our students. You deserve the same respect and the same appreciation.
