Beste Studenten,

Het kabinet heeft vanavond bekend gemaakt dat de huidige maatregelen worden verlengd tot en met 28 april 2020. Dat is voor ons allemaal een bericht dat impact heeft op ons leven, onze studie en onze sociale omgeving. Het is duidelijk dat de bestrijding van de verspreiding van het coronavirus een ongekende uitwerking heeft op onze samenleving; we weten inmiddels ook dat de gevolgen van deze crisis nog lang merkbaar zullen zijn voor ons allemaal.

De verlenging van de kabinetsmaatregelen betekent ook dat ook de HU gesloten blijft en dat we afstandsonderwijs zullen aanbieden tot 1 juni, zoals wij reeds hebben gecommuniceerd, de toetsen anders inrichten, ons onderzoek en onze bedrijfsvoering voor langere tijd aanpassen. Dit heeft ook consequenties voor je studie, van propedeusejaar tot afstuderen.

We hebben inmiddels het BSA aangepast zoals jullie weten, en nu gaan we hard werken om jullie zo goed mogelijk door deze laatste periode te loodsen. Jullie docenten, opleidingsmanagers en de diensten van de HU doen hun best om zo goed en zo kwaad als het kan oplossingen te vinden voor alle hinder die nu langer gaat duren. Mochten jullie vragen hebben over toetsen, stages, afstuderen en het afstandsonderwijs: neem dan vooral contact op met je opleiding via docenten, opleidingsmanagers of studieloopbaanbegeleider (slb’er).

We willen jullie ook bedanken voor jullie inzet en betrokkenheid. We zien dat jullie het afstandsonderwijs snel eigen hebben gemaakt en dat jullie blijven werken aan je studie. Daar hebben we heel veel bewondering en waardering voor; het is een onwerkelijke en onzekere tijd waarin je moet proberen om koers te houden. En niet alleen voor jezelf, onze samenleving heeft jullie hard nodig. Met een goede opleiding en kennis van de beroepspraktijk zijn jullie de professionals die na deze crisis gaan werken aan ons gezamenlijke herstel.

Onze bijzondere dank gaat uit naar al onze studenten die zich in deze tijd zich dienstbaar maken voor anderen. We zien dat studenten met een BIG-registratie werken in de zorg; we zien dat studenten zich aanbieden om ouderen te helpen, een heel groot compliment voor jullie! De HU-gemeenschap laat zien dat zij in deze crisis bewust is van en betrokken blijft bij haar omgeving. Een ander mooi initiatief nemen studenten van de opleiding optometrie, die gaan samenwerken met de afdeling oogheelkunde van het UMCU. Zo’n 12 tot 15 studenten krijgen een training en gaan acht weken werken in een team binnen het UMCU dat 250 á 300 patiënten per dag een telefonische triage afneemt. Een ander goed voorbeeld is dat de 36 ziekenhuisbedden in de lokalen van het Instituut voor Verpleegkundige Studies zijn aangeboden aan het Diakonessenhuis en het UMCU.

Tot slot wensen we jullie heel veel kracht, energie en doorzettingsvermogen, nu we langer in deze situatie gaan verkeren. Zoals we eerder hebben gezegd: let ook goed op elkaar, houd contact en help elkaar. Maak ook gebruik van de support die je opleiding je biedt, als je hulp nodig hebt. We kunnen je niet beloven dat het nu bij deze kabinetsmaatregelen zal blijven; wat we wel beloven is dat we er samen met jullie, als HU-gemeenschap, sterker uit gaan komen.

Dear students,

Tonight the Dutch government announced that the current measures will be extended until April 28, 2020. This is a message that has an impact on all our lives, our studies and our social environment. It is clear that stopping the spread of the coronavirus has an unprecedented effect on our society; we now also know that the consequences of this crisis will be felt by all of us for a long time to come.

The extension of the cabinet measures also means that the HU will remain closed. Also we will offer remote education until June 1, as we communicated before, organize the tests differently, adjust our research and our business operations for a longer period of time. This has consequences for your studies as well, starting from the first year up to graduation.

We have now adjusted the BSA (binding study advice) as you know, and now we will work hard to get you through this last period as best we can. Your teachers, training managers and the services of the HU are doing their best to find solutions, to all the nuisances that will now take longer, as well as possible. If you have any questions about tests, internships, graduation and distance learning: please contact your study program via teachers, study managers or study career counselors.

We would also like to thank you for your dedication and commitment. We see that you have quickly mastered remote learning and that you continue to work on your studies. We have a lot of admiration and appreciation for that; it is an unreal and uncertain time in which you must try to stay on course. And not only for yourself, our society desperately needs you. With good training and knowledge of professional practice, you are the professionals who will work on our joint recovery after this crisis.

Our special thanks go to all our students who serve others today. We see that students with a BIG registration work in healthcare; we see that students offer to help the elderly, a big compliment to you! The HU Community shows that in this crisis it is aware of and remains involved with its environment. Another nice initiative is taken by students of the optometry course, who are going to collaborate with the ophthalmology department of the UMCU. About 12 to 15 students receive training and work for eight weeks in a team within the UMCU that administers 250 to 300 patients a triage via telephone per day. Another good example is that the 36 hospital beds in the premises of the Institute for Nursing Studies have been offered to the Diakonessenhuis and the UMCU.

Finally, we wish you a lot of strength, energy and perseverance, now that we are in this situation longer. As we said before: also pay close attention to each other, keep in touch and help each other. Also take advantage of the support your education provides if you need help. We cannot promise that the cabinet will stick to these current measures; what we do promise is that we will come out stronger together with you, as the HU Community.
